The Diploma in Theology (D.Th) is a four-year accredited programme offered by the United Theological College (UTC). It is designed primarily for people preparing for ministerial service and for those seeking a deeper understanding of Christian theology, pastoral care, and church leadership.
The programme combines academic study with practical formation. Students explore the Bible, Christian thought, ministry, and the life of the Church, while developing the knowledge and skills needed to serve congregations and communities. The curriculum progresses from introductory biblical and theological studies to more advanced coursework, giving students a strong foundation before they pursue specialised areas of interest.
Programme Structure
The D.Th includes core theological and biblical courses, elective options, supervised fieldwork, and a final dissertation. Through fieldwork, students connect classroom learning with the practical realities of ministry and community life. The dissertation provides an opportunity to investigate a theological or ministry-related topic in depth and demonstrate research and writing skills.
The Programme Aims
The programme aims to equip students to:
- Develop broad knowledge of the Bible and Christian theology
- Apply theological understanding to contemporary church and community contexts
- Build practical skills in pastoral care and ministry
- Strengthen leadership and church administration capabilities
- Engage in reflective practice, research, and lifelong learning
